Counseling for Teens
The teens years consist of so many changes-physically, emotionally, and socially. This period can be filled with roller coaster emotions, battling parental dynamics, the pressure of grades, issues with friendships and dating relationships, and developing their own identity. As a result, mental health challenges for teens are all too common. So many teens end up struggling with anxiety, depression, and self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts, and oftentimes not understood due to stigma or lack of understanding. Parents also find themselves struggling to understand what their teens are going through and how to support them.
Counseling with teens can be a really great experience because it’s so important for teens to have their own space to talk about issues without being judged, dismissed, or told what to do. Focusing on developing emotional awareness and coping skills, improving confidence, working on communication skills in all relationships, building resilience in a fast-paced world, and thinking about the person they want to be in the future is something counseling can provide to teens. Counseling also helps teens feel comfortable in their own skin and environment, plus develop the confidence to go out into the world and be their true selves.
