Relationship Issues

Most, if not all of us, have faced some sort of relationship issues in our life. In fact, it’s one of the most common reasons for clients seeking counseling in my practice. Relationships of all kinds are a cornerstone of life and can provide so much good for our happiness, mental health, and overall well-being. However, when relationship issues arise, a lot of us truly feel lost and overwhelmed when trying to maneuver this uncomfortable place. Some of us will shut down while others will proceed to say and do things they later regret. Counseling provides a place to understand difficult feelings that come up, communication breakdowns, unmet needs and expectations, boundaries, and recurring conflicts.

Whether you’re struggling to manage relationships with family members, romantic partners, friends, or coworkers, counseling can be the best place to do this. Here are some of the themes I’ve worked on with clients:

  • Family: resolving conflict, setting boundaries, healing from past hurts and how to move forward
  • Romantic: expressing needs, healing from betrayals, grieving a break-up or divorce, getting back into dating with a new mindset
  • Friends: starting new or ending old friendships, navigating disagreements, drifting apart
  • Work: improving collaboration, setting boundaries to prevent burnout, addressing conflicts and power dynamics

Many of us were not shown or taught how to navigate these types of relationship issues, but that’s where counseling can help. Having a nonjudgmental space to explore these issues and figure out how to address them, both within yourself and with other person, can help alleviate stress and teach you skills in case a similar situation happens again.

If any of this feels applicable to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here when you need!
